Let’s be real-winter can be tough. The shorter days, the colder weather, and the post-holiday slump can leave even the most motivated person feeling a little "blah." If you’re finding yourself struggling to stay energized or upbeat, you’re not alone.
The good news? There are simple, practical ways to combat those winter blues. Small changes can make a big difference in how you feel. And the beauty? They don’t require a complete life overhaul.
Here are 5 ways you can feel more energized and uplifted this winter:
1. Get Some Sunlight (Even When It’s Cold)
Natural light is one of the best mood boosters we have, yet in the winter, we tend to hibernate indoors. Even just 15 minutes outside on a sunny day can work wonders. If heading outside isn’t an option, sit near a bright window or try a light therapy lamp. It’s a game changer! Check this one out an amazon.
2. Don’t Forget to Hydrate
I totally get it! When it’s freezing outside, reaching for an icy glass of water isn’t exactly appealing. But staying hydrated is essential for maintaining your energy and focus. If plain water feels too blah, try herbal teas or warm water with lemon. Bonus: Staying hydrated also helps your skin stay soft and healthy in the winter!
3. Eat the Rainbow, Even in Winter!
When we think of winter foods, we often picture hearty casseroles and comfort foods (which are great in moderation). But don’t overlook the amazing seasonal produce available this time of year. Think citrus fruits, leafy greens, and root vegetables. These are packed with nutrients that can support your energy levels, mood, and even your immune system.
One of my favorite winter meals is a cozy roasted veggie bowl topped with quinoa and a drizzle of tahini dressing- it’s simple, nourishing, and so satisfying. Recipe Below.
4. Move Your Body, Your Way
I know it can be hard to stay active when the weather makes you want to curl up under a blanket. But movement doesn’t have to mean a full-blown workout. A quick 10-minute stretch, a brisk walk, or a little living room yoga can do wonders for your mood and energy.
It’s not about perfection-it’s about finding something you love doing so that you can enjoy the journey to better health!
5. Prioritize Your Sleep
With the longer nights, now is the perfect time to focus on better sleep habits. Create a calming bedtime routine that helps you unwind-maybe that’s sipping on chamomile tea, journaling, or reading a book instead of scrolling on your phone.
Getting consistent, quality sleep is one of the best gifts you can give yourself this season. Need help calming down? Try a sleep meditation.
Final Thoughts
Winter doesn’t have to feel like you're enduring it in survival mode. With small, intentional changes, you can turn this season into an opportunity to reset and take care of yourself. Remember, it’s not about being perfect-it’s about making choices that leave you feeling your best, one step at a time. This gradual approach leads to bigger results over time. Be patient!

Ingredients (Serves 2-3)
For the Bowl:
1 cup quinoa, rinsed
2 cups water or vegetable broth
1 medium sweet potato, peeled and cubed
1 cup Brussels sprouts, halved
1 cup carrots, sliced
1 small red onion, cut into wedges
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 handful fresh spinach or kale (optional, for serving)
For the Tahini Dressing:
3 tablespoons tahini
1 tablespoon olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
1 small clove garlic, minced
2-3 tablespoons warm water (to thin the dressing)
Salt to taste
Instructions
Cook the Quinoa:
In a medium saucepan, combine quinoa and water (or broth). Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and set aside.
Roast the Vegetables:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, toss the sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and red onion with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Spread the veggies in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Roast for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until tender and slightly caramelized.
Make the Tahini Dressing:
In a small bowl, whisk together tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, maple syrup, garlic, and salt. Add warm water, a little at a time, until the dressing reaches your desired consistency.
Assemble the Bowl:
Divide the quinoa among bowls. Top with the roasted veggies and a handful of fresh spinach or kale, if desired. Drizzle generously with the tahini dressing.
Serve and Enjoy:
Garnish with optional toppings like sesame seeds, chopped herbs (parsley or cilantro), or a sprinkle of chili flakes for extra flavor.
This bowl is hearty, customizable, and full of comforting flavors—perfect for staying nourished in the winter! Let me know how it turns out for you. 😊
